1934 - 2022

HOLYOKE-Gumersinda “Riso” Colon (Rivera), 88, entered eternal rest on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at the Holyoke Medical Center. She was born in Comerio, Puerto Rico on February 1, 1934. A Daughter of Manuel Rivera and Juana Berrios.

Gumersinda was an angel on earth, and she now watches over us from heaven. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She led her family by example with God, faith, love, and kindness at the forefront always. Besides her love for God, her family was the most important to her and she made sure to make each and every one of them feel her love. Always quick to welcome her loved ones with her beautiful smile, warm hugs, and precious words of wisdom. She had a poise, grace, and calmness about her that was truly special.

Her unwavering faith and her church community at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Holyoke was also very dear to her. Riso’s countless church friends became family and are especially loved.

Gumersinda was predeceased by her loving husband Angel L. Colon, her son Angel “Jimmy” Colon and daughter Miriam Colon. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her five children, Iris Gonzalez, Luis A. Colon, Nelly Cotto, Miguel A. Colon, and Evelyn Colon, 19 adored grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren to carry her legacy. Riso was also loved by many extended family members and friends.
