Horace “Deputy Dog” Thomas Jr. 

 1940 - 2018

Horace “Deputy Dog” Thomas jr, 77 of Holyoke, Ma passed away Feb. 1, 2018 at Holyoke Medical Center. He was born on June 20, 1940 in Independence, La, to the late Carrie Jackson Chaney and Horace Thomas Sr. “Deputy” moved to Hartford, CT, establishing roots, becoming a member of the Hartford Elks Club and worked as a limousine driver, construction worker, bartender. He moved and settled for over 20yrs in Holyoke, MA fulfilling his passion of Pig roasting. Horace and his best friend Harry Webb became partners in The Quality Pig Roast with Master Dog (Harry)and Deputy Dog (Horace). The business was very successful and well sought out throughout Western MA. Horace will be remembered for his honesty, his pig roasts and of course having a good time with his friends. Horace was loved by so many and will be greatly missed. Horace is survived by a daughter Jessica Holloway and granddaughter Bethany Joas of Norwich CT. Five sisters, Iola G. Ennis and brother in law Ben Ennis, Mary A. Jones, Paulette Chaney, Elouise Nelson, and Mattie Wilkerson and two brothers: Rozelle Fields, Douglas Chaney and his sister-in-law Geraldine. He was predecease by his brother George Jackson all of Louisiana. A viewing of body 11a-1p and a service at 1p will be held at La Rosa Funeral Home 254 Main st. Holyoke, Ma on Thursday Feb. 15, 2018. Repass will be held at the Turn Hall 624 S. Bridge St, Holyoke, Ma. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your choice of charity.
