WESTFIELD- Marilyn (Serrano) Ortiz, 48, a long-term resident of Holyoke has passed away while fighting a long battle with a respiratory illness at Western Massachusetts Hospital on Thursday, May 25, 2015. Marilyn was born July 11, 1968 in Ponce, Puerto Rico a daughter of Fernando Serrano and Elsie (Candelario). She was the 2nd oldest out of 9 children. Marilyn was raised in the Flats of Holyoke and educated in Holyoke schools. She graduated from Holyoke Community College in 1986 with a degree in Childhood education. Marilyn loved her career of being a Certified Daycare Director, working with children was her passion. She will be remembered as positive women, her smile, the love she had for her family will be never be forgotten.  Marilyn leaves her loving husband Jose Manuel Ortiz of 29 years to cherish her memory and will be sadly missed by her two adored sons Wilberto and Jayden Amaro, her parents Fernando Serrano and Elsie (Candelario), four brothers Richard Serrano and his wife Melinda, Fernando Serrano and his wife Carmen, Louis and his wife Yolanda, and Orlando Serrano, three sister Ivette Rodriguez and her husband Jorge, Jazmine Serrano, Jaqueline Vazquez and her husband Felix. She also leaves many dear friends and extended family members.
